Where is the best place to get a digital camera?
Depending on your topic, an important part of blogging is photos. I have provided some free photos for people to use at my free photos site (freephotos.stevestedman.com), but there is nothing like shooting your own photos and posting them on your blog.

In order to do this you will need a digital camera. Most people have digital cameras today, and you don't need that great of a camera for blog photos since people won't want to view everything as a 10 megapixel image. Since most blog photos are sized at less than 800x600, you will need to be able to resize your photos before posting them on your blog.

So this brings us to the question of where is the best place to get a digital camera for blogging?

The last 3 digital cameras that I have purchased have come from Amazon.com. Amazon has a great return policy and a good selection. I have considered buying my next camera a Costco but they typically don't have the same selection that Amazon.com has, although they have a great return policy.

Personally I have purchased Sony cameras in the past, but I am seriously considering a Cannon camera instead.

So I turn this question to you, the readers....

Tell me about your experience purchasing a digital camera, what kind it was, where you purchased it, and how much it was, including tax and/or shipping. Also please state if you were happy with your purchase, and if you would buy from that vendor again?

Freddy
well I don't look a lot for brand names
technology today is so advanced and competitive that all brands give the same or nearly the same features.
give it a try at ebay first to see prices
than go shop at a place where you can see and touch your cam

Good luck in your shopping
Freddy

Interesting blog, of course Amazon is the best.

HP
I purchased a Canon SD1000 from amazon.com for a little over $150. It was well worth the money.

shana
I have purchased 2 digital cameras over the last 4. The first one I purchased from Best Buy. It is a sony cybershot. I love it!! The sales person was very helpful and explained all the extra feature to me. This camera cost me $400.00. I would definetly purchase another camera from Best Buy. The second camera I purchased was from Target. It was a gift for my daughter. I will never buy a camera from a non camera or electronics store ever again. The second camera was $199.00. The sales person was not very knowledgable at all!

Stuart
I used eBay for my first camera (got a good deal) and Amazon for my second. I use dpreview and Steve's digicams for reviews to help me make up my mind.

SKIM
I spend so much money in technology. My favourite place to purchase digital cameras is amazon, of course. It´s the most trusted site for me.

Sachin
I too got my Canon PowerShot A570IS from amazon for about $150 I think I got the true value for my money.

Rick Levy
This is useful information about using digital cameras with blogging.

ivy
I have the Samsung S630 that I bought from RadioShack. I feel that it was well worth the money but now I'm currently looking for a new one and I have been looking at some on Amazon.com. They have quite a few that seem to good for the money.

Don
I picked my Canon digital camera, Canon photo printer and bag all from Amazon. I saved money since there was no sales tax, shipping and the rebates!

Lis
I haven't bought a camera in a while. The last was a Minolta Dimage Z1 about four years ago now. Only 3 MP but with a great lens, it can seriously outperform cameras that were much more expensive. Unfortunately Minolta's merged with Sony on the digital end so I'm pretty sure the line's now out of production. It was about 120ish at the time though.

The best place to start looking for this kind of thing is dpreview.com. They do great reviews and you can search according to the specs that are important to you.

Akshatha
I have never purchased a camera online. Guess i have to visit the amazon website and try shopping. Thanks for your suggestions friends. Let me also try this site. Happy blogging till then.

Beau
I've purchased two digital cameras for blogging. One from Ebay and the other on Amazon. I didn't spend much money on either but they're both 5 mp and work well. I only wish they could take pictures more rapidly.

Russell
This will certainly help bloggers a lot with blogging.

Jen
I agree that Amazon is a great place. I like getting other consumers' feedback from there :)

Erika
The best place to get a digi camera for blogging would def. be Amazon.com, they have the best prices around, you can compare products and if you belong to Amazon Prime-cheap shipping! I bought my new Canon G9 there.

Henrik
I find my Digital Camera at Amazon.com they have the best prices and large choice.

Heather
I think the best place to get a digital camera for blogging would be Best Buy or Circuit City someplace that carries this type of equipment.

bryarly
CompUSA is having going out of business sales right now, so if you are sure you know what camera you want, it is goot idea to check your local store - just make sure it is sealed!

Shelley
I purchased a Kodak EasyShare camera for work for $141.898, and is great for occassional moderate-clarity pictures for posting to the web.

Laura
I think the Sony Cybershot is a great camera for blogging. I bought a Sony Cybershot about a year ago, and it's one of the best digital cameras for the money that you can get. It was less than $100, the pictures are gorgeous, and I have dropped it about 100 times and it still works perfectly! It doesn't have all the fancy bells and whistles, but I post videos and pictures from that camera to my blog all the time. I love it.

AbSlammer
I purchased a Sony Cybershot 8 MP camera because I was always partial to this company. They use the Carl Zeiss lens (arguably the best), and Vario-Tessar zoom technology (upto 10x optical zoom). It's a semi SLR camers because you can choose between auto and manual shooting modes. The focussing is pretty much automatic, but you can adjust the exposure setting as well as the aperture width. It's a lovely camera, with features like multi-burst so ypu can choose the best out of a no. of pictures shot almost simultaneously, but it was quite heavy on the pocket - cost me about $375.

Lieven
Two years ago I bought a panasonic DMC-FZ5 which was great value for its money. What especially appealed to me in that camera was the Leica lens with an optical zoom of 12X.

Keep on blogging!

LaWanda
I have a Fujifilm Finepix s700. It takes amazing pictures. I bought it at Walmart and after tax and the extended warranty I spent about 260.00. I absolutely love the camera. I never thought of puting my digital pics, which I have hundreds of, on a blog before. It's an interesting idea. Thanks for the information in your blog.

siri
Amazon.com rules and so go ahead and shop to get the best

Neener
Personally, I have stuck with the Canon Elph series. I have had two different ones (as one was stolen) and have not regretted purchasing them. I definitely recommended them to all my friends as well. I purchased them at Best Buy since I worked there and paid between $300-$350. The reason I stick with the Elph is that it offers the most features for a snap and shoot digital camera with an easy-to-use interface.

john
nice blog well orginised full with many interresting articles
go on

Becki
I like to shop around, find the camera I like (I'm partial to HP), then I find the cheapest place with the best return policy I can. Surprisingly, the last 2 have been from Walmart.

Tosha
I chose what camera I wanted on Amazon, and then purchased it at Target to save money.

Erin
Nice blog. I'm shopping around for a new digital camera, so this article you wrote is quite helpful. Thank you!

scott
Are you looking for a camera with just still picture capability? what about video?

NejcL
Well the last camera I bought was a HP model. It costs me about 50€. When using flash, the pictures are good, but not when flash is turned off.
I bought the camera from a local online shop.

Drew
The Sony Cybershot that I got as a Christmas gift worked wonderfully for every picture I've ever tried to take. It's small and easy to carry around yet takes amazing quality pictures. Especially if you are going to use those on a blog.

Patrick
Although Amazon is a great place to buy just about anything, I usually prefer to test out digital cameras before I purchase. I tend to do some research before hand it stores like Circuit City or Best Buy, and then go online and find the best deal.

Dwayne
I have to agree which your blog on the vast array of cameras that amazon.com has

Lisa
The best place to buy a digital camera is at an actual camera shop like Castle Photo in Toledo Ohio. They are very helpful, showing all the special features. The camera will cost less money there. They will help you maintain it, and they have good classes. Even visiting the store is like visiting a blog to learn more about your digital camera.

H. Michael Fu
I find your blog a bit informative, althought, in truth, I got my Olympus 130, digital camera at Walmart. Price, I can't remember, for it's just a long time ago. Yet, overall, I'm satisfied with my camera.

Dana
I'd love to get a digital SLR, but that's just too much money. They're also not indicated for someone who just wants to do casual snapshots.

If all you're after is a point-and-shoot, do yourself a favor and steer clear of Kodak. And I hate to say that. I have a Cameo film point-and-shoot that I bought back in the mid-nineties and have carried it around in my purse banging against God-knows-what, and it's still in great shape. But so much as look at a digital Kodak cross-eyed and it starts getting the vapors. My last camera's battery door broke; this one's lens cover is on the fritz. Never again.

CJ
I've enjoyed this blog entry. I purchased my Canon Digital at Ritz Camera and have been very satisfied with it.

Will
I think amazon is a great place to purchase camera's.

Hanayo
I think the best place to buy a camera is best buy. You get the most for your money! Great blog by the way!

Amber
Well, I got my camera from Wal-Mart. Aside from being fairly cheap, it also takes well above average photos.

Korry Wheeler
I appreciate the brevity of your blog. You get right to the point and don't bore us with your own ramblings. I agree that amazon is a great place to shop.

Amber
When we bought our digital camera, it wasn't for the purpose of adding photos to our blog, but now that we have both the camera and a blog for our son, we use it quite a bit for that purpose. I'm interested in reading further posts about how to improve my pics for our blog!

nate
I honestly like amazon But I also like Bestbuy.com they hae a decent selection at a reasonable price.

laura
i got one at walmart and i cant rember how much i paid but i love the camra.

Shona
I have a Kodak EasyShare camera that I use to take photos for my blog! Didn't cost too much money, either!

vonkeswick
Bestbuy has a GREAT selection and lineup, however, their prices seem a little steep. I've always used Amazon.

Kyle Gordon
I don't think it's possible to find the best place overall to buy a camera from. Ultimately, you'll probably be protected from a dodgy dealer by your credit card company.

The best bet is to shop around for the camera that suits you best. Whether it's pocket, portable, semi-professional, or professional - researching your purchase will pay dividends. Buy a reputable camera magazine, check them out in a shop, and then buy the one that you like the best. Don't let the salepeople flood you with numbers and stats - the magazines are best digested in your own time and are out there to provide advice.

Ultimately... take your time :-)

Strom
I got my digital camera as a gift from a blog.

Brian
Digital cameras will go away as soon as the phone technology is perfected.

Daisy
I agree, photos are a very important part of blogging. I got my last camera, from http://www.beachcamera.com. They had the best price for the product I had chosen and they shipped fast!

Marc
Both Amazon and Costco are good -- if Costco has the model you want, I would go there. The problem with buying a digital camera now days is that most camera are more than you need -- for example the Canon SD400 was just fine but it has been discontinued so that the manufacturer can keep introducing new models at the sames sales price point. (That though is where eBay is helpful.).

Anonymouse
This blog rocks! Thanks for the info!

Djinn
I bought a Sony T70 from a Sony Shop in London for about £200. The assistant helped us choose by listing the pros and cons of the two models we were considering.

I would go back to that store if I need something else.

Denny

I use a Sony camera and Picasa to edit pictures on my blog, check out my pictures on my blog 'Deepest Darkest England'.

Noah
Brands of cameras are sometimes important though. Even if they cost more money the reliability and quality are important, even for a blog.

cm
I purchased my digital camera from Dell.com. I got a great deal and they even offered financing.

cb
i think the joy of blogging is jusy in putting your opinion out there,
and that one shouldn't be too focussed on making money. Any digital camera out to work pretty well forthat purpose....

Lee
Well, Since I don't have a lot of time or money, I would probably start at Sam's Club or Wal-Mart to purchase a digital camera. I hear Sony and Canon are good brands; but ask me about a megapixel and I wouldn't have a clue what that is. I will need to take someone along with ne who knows about cameras so that I dont end up with too much or too little of a camera. Thanks for the info!!

Maria Neely
I purchased my last camera on Ebay. I purchased a Kodak Easyshare C340 w/the printing dock. It was used, but in perfect condition. The only problem I forsee with the camera, is that it burns through batteries quickly. Otherwise, it's a great value for the price! The printer is also of good quality.

Mike
I always find B&H Photo the best for online camera purchase, best value for the money....

Ido
I think that cannon camera is the best one, also she can produce the finest pictures for your blog. :)

Srinivas
I got mine on amazon.com, you should really try the high end canon for best image quality.

JACQUELINE
I HAVE JUST PURCHASED A 7.1MEGA PIXEL SONY Cybershot from staples. Staples has pretty great customer satisfaction service and even allowed me to return it within 30 days for a full refund. I didn't however and I still am not sure how much I like this 199.00 dollar camera. Any setting other that auto seems to take bad photos, blurry and with streaks if there is a light source. I have read online that others are having the same issue but maybe I just don't know how to use it yet, when the photos do turn out they are excellent, even if blown up larger than the intended size.

Kit
often the best place to buy digital equipment is from large stores like dixons or currys. be prepared to wait for a sale and get in early.

Ash
I buy my camera's from a local department store in Perth, Australia. They always knock money off of the usual price.

Steve
I have an Olympus FE-230 and I like it alot. It's very compact and yet, it still takes great photos.

Carly
I agree that Costco has a very good return policy and you get good quality for the money. Although I have not bought a digital camera there so can not comment specifically on a camera purchase. One bad experience I can share was with Tiger Direct. My sister purchased a digital camera through them on-line. When she got the package, there was no camera in there. It was either never shipped or stolen. When Tiger Direct was called they said there was really nothing they could do. With a little more persistence they sent another camera - same thing happened. So finally my sister went somewhere else to purchase and again had to be very persistent to get her money back from Tiger Direct. Oh and I agree that Canon had excellent digital cameras.

Shane
The last two cameras I have purchased were from Amazon. They always have a huge selection, and the reviews are pretty helpful when you're browsing.

GREG
YOU MIGHT WANT TO TRY A REPUTABLE PAWN DEALER ALWAYS A BARGAIN TO BE HAD THERE.

Morgan
Investing money into a camera is a solid investment and Amazon does have some great deals.

Mary
I shop everything out on eBay and Amazon to get the best deals. I really felt like I had to see the camera selections when I bought mine, so I went to Best Buy to look, touch, test, etc and then I went online I bought it on eBay for a lot less!

Heather
My current camera is Kodak from Best Buy, bought on Black Friday. IT's a bit extreme for blogging, but I use it all the time. I got it for $190 and am thrilled with it.

sin
Personally, being from Europe, I prefer buying from sites located closer to me. This way I save time and money (taxes and shipping).
For digital cameras, I recommend pixmania.co.uk

Anton
I agree with your blog, Amazon saves good money if you can find the right deals.

Alyssa
I've only ever purchased one camera, and it was on Amazon. Having used the family digital Kodak for years, I was a bit wary to buy another brand, but the price was right so I purchased a Cannon Powershot and I LOVE it. I'm considering getting a newer model of the Powershot, but I will definitely get it on Amazon.

pear8head
My husband was planning on purchasing a camera online through Costco. Had it all pked out and everything. Before he ordered it, I told him to check via Amazon. He found the same camera, a hundred dollars cheaper, free shipping and it arrived two wks earlier then it expected (it actually came in 3 days)!!!

Can't beat that! :O) Way to go Amazon!!

Ellen Christian
Great blog article about using digital cameras to make money. I personally use a Dimera 3500.

Vickie
Thanks for the info about buying a camera for blogging at amazon.com. I want a new one and was hesitant to try amazon, but I think I will now.

aisha
I don't have the money to buy a camera for my blog. I wonder whether there is a free way to send pictures from my cellphone camera to the internet. Does anyone know a way to do this?

Dave
When I decide I am going to purchase anything, I first research the item on the net. I check for user reviews, specifications and of course, price.

I bought a Fuji Fix Pix for my nine year old at Best Buy. It is a great camera and has a large display and is easy for him to operate.

I paid 199.00 plus tax and it was one of the best prices I had found. It was a super special.

Best Buy has good prices, as long as you shop the deals around special holidays. Go early to get yours, as they often only have a few of the advertised item. They DON"T bait and switch you either.

Good Luck!

Andy
I've always found Ebuyer.com have good prices on cameras.

Elisabeth
In response to your blog on where to purchase Cameras from, I too have purchased from Amazon. Most recently a Sony Digital Ax100 which I am very pleased with. Initially there was some confusion on shipping costs, however when I called Amazon's support they were very helpful and the issue was resolved free of cost to me. I definitely recommend Amazon. Also, I've found that sometimes by shopping around your locality, some department stores may have a camera that fits your needs for cheaper than many online stores. For example, I purchased a camera that was a display for 15% off and when looking online, I could not have gotten it cheaper.

smith
I agree that Amazon is a great place. I like getting other consumers' feedback from there :)

Big E
I purchased a Canon SLR camera from Best Buy; I love the camera, but the service from Best Buy was miserable. I tried for almost half an hour to get a sales reps attention, but alas I guess that I didn't look like I had money so they didn't want to talk to me (actually avoided me more like the plague) - granted I had just got off work but I digress. I only stood around because the camera in question was almost $150 cheaper than anywhere else that I could find. I finally had to go get a manager from another department, and even with the manager there the Sales Rep acted like it was a chore to help me. I finally got to the register and after every thing including a zoom lense I think that I paid $600 (came with extra battery, 2 lenses, carry case, and filter set).

Lisa
I paid 125.43 for a Kodak easyshare ZD710 at Walmart. I feel it was worth the money.

Mebennui
There are so many stores carrying cameras and accessories it gets down to getting the most for your money. I use an Olympus D-460 Zoom-it is 6 years old but does what I need.

Cory
For my money the best place to get a camera is bhphoto.com. I purchased a Canon SLR there, and even though it was $2500 for the rig, it was a great investment. Between vacation photos of my trips and getting paid to take photos at weddings, it's more than paid for itself with memories and paychecks.

Teresa
Do you feel namebrands are important when making a purchase? My most recent digital camera purchase was a Kodak all in one unit at Circuit City. I purchased it mostly for the convenience of printing without a computer and due to the price.

Stephanie
I bought my camera off of Ebay 4 years ago, so I don't remember how much money I paid for it. It is a Minolta. It was also a refurb so it was a good deal on it. Last year I bought a mini dvd recorder which also takes still pictures so I use that now. However I'm hoping to get another digital camera in the future, thanks for suggesting Amazon, I didn't think about that. As for the brand, as long as it has a good review and does what I need it to, I'm not really concerned about the brand. :)

ann
I received my last digital camera as a gift.. I have ben looking at Walmart.

Jeanne
I agree my camera is hugely important for my blog!!! I too have a Kodak easy share I use all the time for my blog spot and ebay store. You can't beat it for the money.

Michael H.
I just got into blogging, and I like to include pictures in my blogs. I got a really good Digital Camera off of Ebay. It was used, but it is in great condition and I saved over 100 dollars off of the retail price.

Kris
When I bought my digital camera I used a comparison shopping site. I can't remember which one it was, but I found it by going to google and typing in "comparison shopping for digital cameras." I got a Kodak EasyShare C530 with case and cleaning kit for $127. It was a great buy to me, but next camera I am going to buy will be one that has more functions because my camera now just doesn't have all the functions I would like. I would most definitely buy another camera online though because you can find great deals. Ontop of comparison shopping, once you find a bargain you can search for ecoupons or coupon codes for the site you are purchasing from and obtain even more savings!

Rebecca
I never thought I could combine photos and blogging to make money.

Angela
My first digital camera was a Fuji, I love it, but not enough pixels for me it was 7 mega pixels. I asked for a better camera for Christmas, and my husband bought me a Kodak with 8.2 Mega Pixels, it`s a Kodax Easy Share M853. Guess what, I don`t like it. He purchased it at Wal-Mart for me to use for blogging on my sites, and for concerts I attend. The pictres are just ok, camera is very small, with small features to press, I can hardly see them. The print is so small on the camera, I don`t know if I have it set for Pictures, or video, you need a magnifing glass to see it. Very disappointed with this camera.

Pam
I got mine from Toshiba. It is Fuji. It was about 250.00, but I saved some money with a mail-in rebate. So it really helps to have pictures in your blog? I will have to add some to mine. Thanks for the info!

monsteroyd
Just a comment on your blog: I get the best deals on cameras online buying refurbished ones.

OctFaerie
I too have presently have a Sony, pretty satisfied with it, good camera for the money.

Rob
I have a fugi finepix digital camera. The camera itself is good, less mega pixels than my phone but the quality is far higher. The only downside is the software bundled with it.

Cindy
I bought my Olympus digital at Amazon.com as well - got the best price there and my accessories as well. Did my research all over the internet, though.

cara
got my canon slr locally for around 800 dollars and i'm very satisfied with it. will definitely buy canon next time around.. probably the higher version of what i currently own.

Nick
This is a great blog and cameras are sure a good way to make money

Ultrascichick
I always shop Amazon.com. When I find the camera with the specs I want, I google it. Usually Amazon has the best price. Takes a few minutes, but saves tons of money. I love Amazon's free shipping!

Anna
Hi there. I bought a Sony Cybershot. Great little camera. I bought it a few months ago at Walmart for 159.00. This camera has so many things you can do with it. Others have told me otherwise but I like it. I'm satisfied.

Tracey
I look for a large, clear viewing screen. I had a digital camera that you couldn't use when it was dark out and I take most of my pictures at night so when that camera broke, I wasn't sad at all.

WizZdoom
great idea to blog the pictures from digital camera. any value for money store would do the trick for a camera.

insane
digital camera for blogging-either on amazon.com or ebay.com. here the money is considerably low. easy transaction makes the deal fast and quik.

Thom Blake
I'm not sure cameras are all that relevant to blogging - a blog is about being a useful reference to contextually relevant info on the Internet; they're a large part of what keeps Google working!

Jessica
I agree with you that Amazon is a great place to purchase a digital camera. You can read all of the reviews on there and make an informed decision on the camera that is the best for using on blogs.

Emily
This is really helpful! I was JUST thinking about ordering a digital camera on Amazon. In the past I bought a Canon Powershot from Target and I got an extremely great value for my money!

denny
I think Cannons are the best digital cameras available, and they do not cost too much money.

Tom
I think pictures are vital to a blog. Many blogging tools just don't support them easily.

Susan
I bought a HP digital camera at xmas time from Walmart with the photo developer pod. Everything is easy to use with many different options on the camera it's self. The printer pod however is a pain in the buttocks. Beware if getting a HP one.

Jason
I have always used Sony digital cameras because they are pretty simple to use. I bought mine at best buy and haven't had any problems dealing with them. I think I paid $250.00 for it. Not bad for the quality of pictures it takes!

coolkid
you sir are the greatest blog writer ever and deserve a noble prize.

David
Research is the key with cameras and then purchase from reputable online sellers such as amazon, calumet, national camera and video.

amber
I have heard that cannon products are great products in general. I have also heard great things about their cameras, although this camera was not a digital camera. I would suggest buying cannon.

Roxy
You stated in your blog that you've purchased at least 3 different digital cameras and are looking to buy yet another digital camera. This surprises me. I was given a camera by my husband around 2 years ago and am just now thinking about getting a new one. If I were using a camera just for blogging I don't think it would be necessary to have anything above just a basic point and shoot. The only issue I've encountered with digital cameras in general has been shutter delay, which is certainly interesting when you have small children. =)

chrisi
I have a canon and I LOVE it. I would highly reccomend any of the canon powershot cameras.

critters
I have an Olympus digital camera and am in the market for a newer and better version. Unfortunately they all cost more money than I want to spend. I will consider the Sony cameras.

Lynn
My last few cameras have come from Costco. The price is great, I can research on the internet, pick a camera and have it within minutes and they have a great return policy.

Jeff
Best Buy has a great service plan, I like to get my "high risk small parts" electronics there for that reason.

Arun
I bought recently a Sony Cybershot digital camera and i live in INDIA and bough the camera at Sony World

louie
i bought my digital camera from ebay just last year. they allow paypal and you have an options to purchase shipping insurance for your purchases.

amy leeson
If you ever need to use a camera quick, say for one day, walmart has the best return policy.

David
best buy and circuit city have the best digital cameras. Although their prices may be a bit high, they offer good warranty packages.

deniz
I think that getting a digital camera from a website like Amazon sounds like a bad idea. because the person that your buying it from can rip you off. Thats why I pefer getting a camera at a store so that you can see it for yourself.

Brian
I purchased my digital camera from QVC, and I was able to get a great package of quality digital photography products for the money.

Tim W.
I once bought a decent film camera from Wal-Mart a few years ago for a photography class.

Chris
I have found that one of the cheapest sources of new digital cameras for a lot less money that retail, is the display sales at the photo counter at Wal-Mart. You won't get much for service after the sale, but you get a good quality camera for cheap (everything from compacts to digital SLRs). -Cheers

Elicia
This is an awesome blog about digital cameras. I purchased a Kodak C613 through Amazon as a christmas present for myself. I do love the camera but do understand that it is not a great camera for blogging!!

Pamela
I'm new to blogging and it never occurred to me to use pictures at all - presumably my great writing would be sufficient (Ha!)so thanks for your recommendations. I don't plan to use my blog to make money, though, but images would sure make it easier on the eyes.

Debi
I bought my camera at walmart, a fuji

Darrell
I bought a Casio exslim from Circuit City on black friday last year, and let me tell you, it is awesome!

Best buy ever!
I recently purchased a digital camera from BestBuy. The reason I decided to spend my money there was the 3 year warranty!

Charlesa
The best place I have found to buy a digital camera was in best buy or circuit city. The people there help find one you need based on what you plan to use it for. Plus they have really good sales throughout the year.

Suzy
I bought my camera from an independently owned camera specialty store. It was around $500 for the Olympus 770SW which is waterproof, and drop proof. I was very happy with the camera till I lost the battery charger, which has been nearly possible to replace, since it seems that everyone is always sold out.

Dean
Great info and very well written, I will certainly take this post into consideration when purchasing my next camera.

gagandeep
I believe online deals are the best places before buying to get a digital camera, i bought a digi cam from dubai in my last visit and i visited few shops and got at a best price.

Moon
I've discovered that if I buy digital cameras from Amazon, I not only get a great quality camera but also I also save a lot of money.

Razor
I bought my sony cybershot from the sony world .The sony is the best quality provider in my opinion.so i recommend sony cybershot to all

Angelique Fancher
I also have found Sony's to be dependable and last forever. I STILL have the one I purchased in 1998. It still works, so have not gotten around to replacing it.

Cathy T
We used our local department store London Drugs.com and they had really knowledgeable staff.

Good luck!

Julie
I bought my digital camera (Minolta) at Best Buy, saving a lot of money by checking the blogs for the "secret" deals, and then using my rewards money for even more savings!

Abby
I got mine recently at circuit city because they usually have decent bundle deals going on.

Roger
I recently purchased two Canon A560's for Christmas 2007 after extensive online Google research. I searched for online digital camera reviews from approximately 3 different sites. Each site had detailed technical information about most brands and models of cameras on the market. I culled the cameras according to maintenance problems, quality, price, and review website rating system. After that process I than began my search for price both online and local. My online research guided me to a local purchase at Circuit City. My total cost per Canon A560 was $164.49 which included the camera, a 3yr. Circuit City Protection Plan, and Taxes. You could also include the price of one gallon of gas for the round trip to the store!

Lily
Amazon has everything of course and you really can't go wrong with a Cannon.

soncha
I'd also buy at amazon.

Bob
I can't believe that more people didn't suggest Craigslist! Support your local economy, not the massive global capitalists!

kaymar
I got a Canon SD550 which I researched online with reviews at CNET.com
We made the purchase at Best Buy; the price was good, and they were actually great about accepting return of a different Minolta camera that we'd bought first. It was around $400 in January 2006. I love it to pieces. Canons are terrific cameras.

Jason
I was looking for a place to get a new camera. Thanks for the tip. I hope the new camera will increase the money I earn from blogging.

Drew
I bought my camera from Circuit City. I wasn't even going to buy it there but the sales rep was very helpful and knowledgeable so I got the camera.

JBC
Canon makes excellent cameras! I'm particularly partial to the Rebel models. They are a good value.

Sierra
I have a Canon Powershot (Digital Elph) that I purchased from Best Buy. I bought it for approximately $250.00 although I think it was on sale. I have been very happy with the camera and I would buy it again if I had the opportunity. Sony has good cameras, but I do not like that they don't use SD cards. The Canon cameras are certainly worth the money.

Mayne
I bought a Kodak EasyShare CD33 (3.3 megapixels) back in 2005 from Walmart.com. It came out to be around $108.00 with tax. While it is a pretty good camera next time around I will definitely buy one with more megapixels.

James Rickard
The Canon Rebel works very well--at least it has SO FAE--I haven't had it that long. I have plenty of experience with a PowerShot 610 and have been pleases with the quality, durability, and picture quality. Either is MUCH quicker than scanning prints I already have.

Ed
I've purchased Canon Rebel on Amazon before. I know people that have done it on ebay for cheaper.

rad
I bought my camera from a shop named Play, they have every kind of cameras you can thik

Jayne Chisholm
Interesting article.

My last 2 digital cameras were both Sony Cybershots, and while the quality was great I needed a good bridge camera as I've started taking photography a bit more seriously, but am by no means a professional.

I purchased a Fuji FinePix S65000 fd from Amazon, and was amazed at how it cheap it was, and with free delivery as well.

However, the camera took weeks to arrive, and after many emails to Amazon, 2 turned up! This would have been great if they had only charged me for one, but alas they billed me for both. As soon as the extra was sent back, they credited my card back no probelm at all.

Sara
I bought my Kodak digital camera just a few years ago and it is already outdated. However, I am satisfied with it, so I will probably go with Kodak again when I buy my new camera.

Amber
I shopped around a lot before purchasing my Canon PowerShot G7 at the end of 2006. I read through numerous ratings and reviews on websites before deciding on the G7. The website that I found to be the most helpful was http://www.dpreview.com/. I then shopped on places like Amazon and Newegg before finally deciding on where to purchase my new camera. A great deal isn't so great if they don't have good customer service and a return policy.

Hunter7Taylor
I purchased my camera from Office Depot and saved lots of money almost 50%! The camera was on clearance and I was in the right place at the right time.

lisa
I have a cannon poweshot a530. I bought it well My now husband bought it with my helo as wedding gift 2 years ago. It really easy to use light weight and take regular aa batteries. It was about 200.00 Im sure now they are much cheaper

gaurav
you can purchase digital camera from amazon.com in very low price

baboon
Canon are really starting to gain ground...good cameras - i suggest amazon

Freddy
i bought a sonic and it was the best decision of my life!!!

Sandy
By your great article on digitle cameras I now know where I can start looking for one.

Amanda
The last time I bought a digital camera I bought it from Best Buy. I don't really think I got my money's worth from it. I don't suggest going there

Joe
My digital camera came from Walmart. I already knew what I want and how much it was (HP Photosmart $130) and all I had to do was wait for an associate to finally get it out of the case for me.

Buying it was the easy part, however I wish I had done my homework because the camera is the worst I have ever owned.

James
I purchased a camera from wal-mart as well my camera is 6.5 megapix and is not all it's cracked up to be I think my iphone takes better picture beware when buying a camera! Don't shop wal-mart for a good camera! and reserch for what you want a better price doesn't mean your getting a good deal!

Mags
One of the best places to get a digital camera is in the clearance area of the electronics department at Target or Walmart. They frequently switch out their stock and put the new, but later models on sale. If you're lucky, they might be trying to get rid of a great camera.

kris
I have a Kodak EasyShare C875. It is nothing fancy, but I love the pictures I have been able to take. I bought it last year so I am not sure what I paid for it, but I did buy it at Circuit City. I went to their website and read the comparisons before buying it. I also bought the G600 printer dock and then got a case with rechargeable batteries for it for our vacation. It worked great. Anything electronic that I have bought I go to either Amazon or Circuit City to find out what other people have to say about it before I buy it. I did learn that the hard way. I bought a TV and never read up on it, after having issues, I found the customer comment sections and found other people had the same issue, wish I would have found it sooner. I highly recommend reading up on anything electronic you are thinking about purchasing and make sure you get exactly what you want.

karen S
i got my digital at walmarts ..for the price i got a good deal and liked being able to handle the merchendise...karen S

thehawke
We recently bought a Canon Digital Rebel EOS (?) from Amazon.com. My partner in love uses it the most for her blog. I think this is a great camera but it has quite the learning curve. Defintiely not a camera for the casual blogger or first-timer.

karlee
overstock.com is another interesting option where you can find brand names for cheap.

penidave
Awesome! sounds like information I can take advantage of! Thanks!

jsjsyne
I like my cannon camera . It takes fantastic pics and I saved alot of money.

Arun vinesh kumar
Fantastic Blog

Alison
I bought my last camera at best buy. Although it's a great camera, pretty much the same one you have, the customer service isn't very good and they have a small selection. Next time I'll probably buy from amazon.com. Thanks for the tip!

Nick
I bought an 8 megapixel sony cybershot camera at best buy and it has worked out great! I would recommend a sony camera for someone who doesnt know much about technology.

Twila
I have been told by so many people that Sony has the best quality for everything. Well, I have a Kodak digital camera that was purchased from Target and it is great. Also Target has their cameras on display for you to take pictures and see what they look like.

Sabeena Ibrahim
This is usefull information for bloggers.I will purchace my digital camera in amazon.com.It rocks!

Noel
I really want the Canon Rebel that does both film and digital.

Nanette
Take your time picking a camera if you want to get the most for your money.

LNS
I bought my last 2 cameras from Target. I know it's not very tech-saavy, but it worked for me!

Amber
I have the Nikon D40 and I love it with a passion. I have found that using pictures on blogs really help to sale an item.

Gisella
I often purchase cameras online, for the sake of saving money. If I physically visit a store, I go to Best Buy, sometimes they have great deals online. But generally I prefer Amazon, great competitive prices and great quality.

goose
The best place to buy a digital camera for the money is Best Buy.

senthil kumar
quality of service can earn more customer rather then design or ads

Raz
I like getting cameras at Costco, good try out before final selection.

crisis233
your blog is very interesting..Like you I also like to take photos and use them in my blog..I use a sony digital camera or just use camera of my cellphone..

christina
I got a great Kodak Easy Share digital camera from walmart that I use for posting pictures in a blog. I saved money buy purchasing it online.

tracklady
I would highly recommend a Canon Camera, I have 3 of them and I love them I bought them from a local camera store in Cleveland, Ohio. But I do hear really good things about B&H in New York. It is and online warehouse that sells camera and I have known many people that have bought thousands of dollars worth of equipment from them and have not heard of a bad experience yet. Good Luck!!!

Hen
I personally like to go to a store to look at the cameras. Once I find one I like then I do the online research to find the best price.

free2Bme
My husband got my a Kodak for Christmas two years ago from Best Buy, and I loved it, but it quit working after 2 months. When he took it back, he found out they would not replace it, because of a policy they have of fixing faulty product 3 times before replacing it (which they neglected to tell him when he bought it.) Needless to say, it broke again after they fixed it, and after the 3rd time, said they couldn't give me the same camera, they were out of stock, and I had to take a cheaper one in it's place, but no refund on the difference. I raised a lot of ruckus over it, and they finally gave me a free 2 year extended warranty. I will NEVER go back to Best Buy for anything.

ashley
I was buy my electronics from the small electronic repair shops. They have great deals.

Thomas
I personally believe that the best place to buy a camera is from bestbuy or radioshack.

Pamm
Good information for those who are digital camera shopping!

Kim
This is a great way to get information before buying a digital camera. I bought mine from Target. I was in a hurry and asked the sales guy what camera is great and cheap. He said stay away form Kodak. I got an Olympus and its great!!! The picture quality is fantastic. I am noticing alot of people have this camera.

Thomas
I bought my digital camera from Best Buy. It was the new Sony Cybershot 10.1MP Digital Camera. While the camera is very nice I wish I had taken the time to read over the manual. I got stuck trying to figure out all the "extras" on the camera while I took my cruise. Also come to find out I did not have the right memory card for it either. Now I have 2 memory cards and know more about the camera and I love it!

satheesh
im very intersted with digital cameras. recently i bought a new cannon t320 camera. its really super

Greg
One thing to keep in mind: Make sure you get a camera that comes with rechargeable batteries or a built-in charge mechanism. The amount of energy that goes into a flash quickly drains alkaline batteries, and you do not want to be buying batteries constantly.

VC
Personally, I'm a huge fan of Canons. All the Sony's that I've had have broken long before their end of life. I bought a Canon Digital Rebel XT. Best camera I have ever owned, hands down. As for best place to buy? Online: Amazon is almost always the cheapest. Brick and mortar: Wolf camera has a good selection and a knowledgeable staff.

Amber
I'm a nikon girl. I've never thought about buying a camera from amazon.com. After reading your blog I think I might go do some research on it. Thanks.

Allen
I purchased my last camera in a store while in the Middle East. Believe it or not they had better customer service than anyplace I have found in the US.

smith
I bought my camera from Circuit City. I wasn't even going to buy it there but the sales rep was very helpful and knowledgeable so I got the camera.

Lauren
I bought my camera from circuit city for about $300. It is a Canon SD 750. I love it and I would definitely purchase from them again.

freakydave
I bought my last digital camera from the the same place I bought my computer. It isn't very good.Next time I'll check out amazon.com.

jason
Great blog I just bought a cannon sureshot 850 7 megapixel I hope that can upload photos with my blogs. I need to check back on more of your blogs for more info.

Historytrivia
Although I have never own a camera, I have heard of Canon because my uncle has it. I think it is very savvy. Canon resolution is wonderful. You can see the pictures right after you take them. Canon is worth buying if you are serious about photography.

Cheryl
Interesting info, I have been looking for a new camara.

Kim
This article is very interesting. I found the ideas of places to get a camera very educational. I am in need of a new one so I will take the advice.

Heather
We bought a really great Sony camera from Best Buy for about 300 dollars. It is semi-professional and takes wonderful pictures, but it is bulky to carry around everywhere. There is a compact Cannon for about $250 at Best Buy that I'm considering purchasing for myself, and it comes in several colors, which adds a bit of fun!

Brittany
I purchased my Canon E540 from Amazon and I love it! I also bought an underwater housing case for it. It was a great deal and I would definitely not hesitate to buy a camera from Amazon again.

kiran
This discussion has provided lot of info on camera, thanks for this blog.

ashley
I bought a C300 kodak easyshare camera from sams club for $110 and i really ahted the camera. I didnt know to much about cameras when i bout it i thought it just looked like and ok camera for the price. It was only 4.0 pixels? and i now know thats not very good.

dave
I used to buy Sony and now have switched to cannon they make great cameras and are reasonably priced. So long as you do not go up into the high end SLRs. I usually go through Amazon to make my purchases the days of going to a store and having to deal with all the crowds is over for me.

karenage
I have found fantastic deals at ritzcamera.com and would recommend it to anyone.

happycamerabuyer
Some professionals may scoff, but I bought my digital SLR from Bestbuy. It's a canon 30D, purchased as a complete kit. I did a lot of research before I went, because I didn't expect to receive too much help from the Bestbuy employees. But it was really easy, and a lot quicker than going to a camera shop where you usually have to endure long lines to buy anything.

kate
recently bought a great sony cybershot from amazon. great price, and arrived really quickly. it goes through power fast though!

Steven
I recently purchased a Nikon D40 and couldn't be happier with my purchase. I cost me $450 at my local Best Buy on sale (no sales tax in DE). I would definitely would buy from Best Buy again and would consider another Nikon in the future.

Megan
Well let's see...

I remember this past year in January I only had one thing on my "Birthday list", a digital camera.

And not just ANY digital camera. I wanted a good one because I wanted to start taking pictures, just random pictures everywhere I went.

I researched for a few hours one day and came across Sony's CyberShot. I wanted one in blue SO bad but unfortunately only the color silver was available, but I'm SO happy that I got it!

It takes GREAT pictures. I got it for close to $250 at Circuit City. Yes, the price IS a bit high, but I wouldn't change my decision to get this camera for anything!

I plan on buying future purchases from Circuit City too.

I would definitely buy this camera again IF I had to, but THIS time preferably in blue lol!

Big D
I still use a Kodak DX7440 4 MP camera which I bought 4 years ago. It is a good picture taker and has useful advanced amateur features such as a 33-132mm equivalent zoom lens, full manual control, and the ability to take filters, a lens shade, and other accessories. The battery life is also excellent. Unfortunately it is no longer made and they don't have anything in their current line-up quite like it.

ashish
This is a great article on selecting a camera. I personally would get it from Costco only because I like to hold my gadgets in hand and feel them before I buy them.

Christine
I have purchased my last three cameras from BJs Warehouse. They have the latest technology and competitive prices.

Joco
The best place to buy digital camera is amazon.com.

You can see and chose what do you want from digital cameras.
Its the best place ever.

WYO Music Man
Although my wife and I don't use her camera for blogging, we did recently purchase a new camera. Her's is a Cannon. We love it. It certainly would provide high quality pictures for any blog needing photos. I would also recommend Circuit City for purchasing your camera. We received great assistance in selecting the camera. Definately going to purchase our next camera from them when we are in the market again.

chane;

I Purchased my Digital camera from HP. My Hp camera actually came as a bundle including the printer, ink, and paper. It was a great deal. The total price was $111.65. Great deal for great quality.

Joco
Bro the best place to get good camera is amazon.com

I have buy from there everything.
Its just great.
But you need to find your digital camera first of corse

Joe
i have found this very helpful. I used your advice and bought a camera from Amazon and found it to be a very good place to buy.

Lee
I have purchased both of my digital cameras online. The first I bought from Amazon for similar reasons as yourself, the most recent I bought from Ebay, I got a bargain 2nd hand Canon which worked like new.

Michecox
I have a Canon PowerShot A560 and I love it! It's really easy to use, very intuitive, and the photos upload to my computer super-fast. It's a great buy for the money, a 7.1 megapixel camera for under $200.

Ralph
I purchased a Canon Digital Rebel XT from Best Buy, but wouldn't buy from there again. If I were to spend the money again, I'd get a Canon D40, they are wonderful and have a great kit lense.

john harrow
i aggree, pictures are a huge part of blogging.

Kayla
I bought my camera at Target, but I have also found some good deals on Amazon!

mb
very good info....i think now even i will be buying a canon camera.

Natasha
Thanks for the helpful tip! I've been thinking about investing in a new camera myself...

Debra
Thanks. Good, basic, usable info!

Bambi
I have the Nikon camera pictured, and it works great for blogging!

shutterbug103
Thanks for the advice! I was just looking for a place to get a camera, and now I have some new ideas.

gershwin2003
Ebay always does it for me! Olympus Corporation EVOLT E-520 DSLR 10MPIX &-14-42MM OUTFIT. Great seller. Got it for $601 no shipping no tax. Love it and use it everyday would do it again in a heartbeat.

KMS
WHY OH WHY would you EVER want or use a sony or canon camera? Are you trying to watch a Blu-Ray or print a photograph. You NEED to check out Minolta or especially Nikon. D80. I don't know how much you want to spend or how good you are but Nikon makes some that even an idiot can take a great photo.

Nina
What a interesting blog! I'm lookin to purchase a new camera and have used Amazon twice in the past. I would like to use it again, but I wasn't sure what camera to purchase. I know have some new info to help me with my decision. Thanks!

TMK
My husband is an aspiring pro photographer, and shoots currently with a Canon 300D. He loves the camera, but is looking to upgrade to a 10D, or similar. Having used the Canon cameras, he has decided that he won't shoot with anything else.

Ashley
My own blog isn't as professional as yours, so I never use a professional camera. I like to use my cell phone, I have a Samsung Slider then I can just put it directly on flickr. For me its easier and quicker and I dont have to be on a computer to do it.

Thebigandy
I purchased my camera at Best Buy. I liek thier reward zone programm and no intrest on cameras with thier credit card.

Emily
I have purchased 4 digital cameras (3 Kodak and 1 Canon) at Amazon. I like the free shipping and the very fast response time. Their prices tend to be less than retail in local sources, and their selection tends to be better, too.

Joanie
I bought a new Digital SLR for $99.95 a few years ago on ebay when my daughter needed it for college. I really checked out the seller's reputation and it all turned out beautifully. She loves the camera and has had no problems with it.

mkgn
It is indeed great to have your own photos with your own camera. I am an armature photographer. I use a Cannon S5 and it's excellent for my purposes. I bought it from Amazon and cost me $349 with shipping. In general, I always look at Amazon if I need to buy anything online. Up to this date, everything I needed was available in Amazon. So, yes I would buy from Amazon in the future as well

Ami-chan
I had problems with Amazon for cameras just because of the warranties. The camera I bought from Amazon had to be repaired three times within almost the first year. The first two times it was still covered by the manufacturers warranty the third the warranty had expired and it would have cost more to fix it than to get a new camera.

So, I replaced it with a camera from Radio Shack (after researching on Amazon) because at least then I can take it back to the store if it is damaged, even outside of manufacturers warranty and they will fix it.

Beverly
Unfortunately my purchasing info doesn't much matter, as I got it from a friend; but I have a Sony Cyber-Shot and I like it quite well. I do some food blogging and it's given me crisp images to use. Mine is a few years old; but my parents got a new Cyber-Shot and they love it so far.

Michelle
You definetely don't have to spend alot of money for a good camera. I managed to find a good Kodak for my daughter for Christmas at Target. It was normally $150 and I got it for $90. I kept the receipt. She managed to do something to it in the bottom of her bag. They replaced it! It takes decent pictures, not impressive, but they work for what she needs.

luis
I disagree with Ami-chan, Amazon is a great place to buy and they never ask you questions if you want to return a camera.

Dana
A digital camera is crucial for blogging. Pictures make all the difference between drab "not reading anymore" and eye catching "I want to look at everything". Plus isn't a picture worth a 1000 words? I haven't bought a digital camera yet but if you think that Amazon.com is the best value for money then I will go there. Thanx. D

JJay
We bought our digital camera at abesofmaine.com. We saved quite a bit of money through them. We've purchased 2 Nikon cameras and 1 Canon camcorder. We've been pleased with our purchases.

Carolina
I have a Canon - PowerShot 8.0-Megapixel Digital ELPH Camera - Silver and it works great for me. I take pictures of all my handmade jewelry. The zoom and macro features are great and I can take pretty decent pictures. It was less than $200 and I think it was worth it.

Wendy
My parents bought me a Canon RebelG from WolfCamera when I graduated high school.

Nitish
Very Good information about making money from blogs. Images do the trick for increasing traffic. Also about digital cameras.

Linda
I have a Kodak Easyshare C300. I got it from the kodak website a few years ago for $100...I don't remember what the shipping was though. I like it for the most part, but I do wish it was smaller...but I have had it four years now so that's the main reason it's bigger than other newer cameras.

Lalit Sawnani
i have recently bought a kodak digicam from amazon, and am very happy with the deal....also looking for a laptop...any suggestions??

Courtney
Be sure to get one with a view finder, we found out the hard way how quickly the LCD screen can be cracked and, without a view finder, make the camera worthless.

Alicia
Hi Steve, love the blog, lots of useful info here. I am hopeless when it comes to purchasing camera's and I know I get ripped off every time. I think I could learn a lot here. Thanks!

mighty mouse
This blog article was very informative and well put together. Job well done.

naiku
I picked up a nikon d40 a month ago. I got it from best buy out of the door for 550$. I had a few reward zone % off and a 50$ GC. The camera works extremely well. I wish it had more autofocus points but for an entry DSLR its quite a steal.

Gradinaru
Personally, i think SONY are the best cameras available, they have many features and they don't let you town. I had no trouble what so ever with buying one

Tiff
I like the article and buy my camera's from amazon.com because they have the best prices!

Asia
Pictures make a blog interesting

Ryan C
I've always shopped at Best Buy for my digital camera needs. I really don't like the idea of shopping for cameras online. Best Buy will match a lot of prices and if you have a good store around you, some of the employees know cameras.

Arijit Bose
Well I wanted to buy a digital camera and I ended up buying a Sony Digital Camera. The picture quality is good but the problem is you cannot zoom while making videos in these digital cameras. That's why I will suggest others not to but Sony Digital Cameras.

Gwen
I bought my digital camera a Canon 560 sure shot from Amazon over two years ago and paid 158. for this beauty. I take a lot of photos and it has settings for everything I from close up to night time. I love shopping through Amazon and have always received great customer service and the products are high quality and there are bargains galore if you take the time to look for them.
